Junior Tennis Group Clinics
This 2009-2010 season our teaching staff will once again be teaching our lower level students on smaller “mini” courts using a smaller court surface, lower nets, smaller racquets and low compression balls. This instruction method is now being used to get younger players playing tennis quicker. Past research has shown that 80%of young students were leaving the game because they found it too hard to learn, using the same training methods we used on older, bigger students. Our professional staff agrees with this change of teaching philosophy and has seen quicker development in our younger students as well as better student retention.
This winter we will once again field junior teams at 3 age levels in a U.S.T.A sanctioned travel league. This will be the third year of this league and each year has brought better structure and format than the previous years. All our tennis professionals feel that this is an invaluable team experience and is well worth the effort.
We have 5 different ability levels coupled with 4 age groups to place students in appropriate classes. New students will be offered a free evaluation to ensure proper class placement. We also offer an invitational class for the higher level high school players. This class and our level 5 class have a fitness component as well.
Our program is designed to ensure proper placement of students based on their age and ability. Our classes are designated Level 1 5, and we have four age groups: Preschool, Grades 1-3, Grades 4 7, & grades 8 12.
Students enrolled in levels 1,2 & 3 will attend one clinic per week. Students in level 4 & 5 will attend one clinic per week, but will also participate in our supervised match play (Playdays) on Fridays or Saturdays.
Please read the following descriptions to help you choose which class to choose for your child. If you are unsure we will be happy to evaluate your player prior to registration. To schedule an appointment for an evaluation, please call the tennis department at x 31.
TO REGISTER YOUR CHILD FOR A CLINIC, PLEASE CONTACT THE TENNIS DEPARTMENT DIRECTLY.

Rising Stars: This class is for preschool & kindergarten children, ages 4 & 5 who have little or no tennis experience. This 1 hour class will be an active & fun introduction to tennis.
Level 1: This level is for students who have little or no tennis experience.
Level 2: This level is for students who have been introduced to basic strokes and can hit the ball over the net in a feeding drill. They can sustain a short rally in mini tennis. They cannot serve.
Level 3: Students in this level can sustain a short rally from the baseline. They can serve and have some experience playing singles and doubles.
Level 4: Students can hit with consistency and moderate power from the baseline. They have the ability to hit volleys, overheads, approach shots, and serves. Their footwork and court coverage is improving. This class will emphasize technique, but will devote time each week to strategy and point play.
Level 5*: This level is for players who are committed to improving their games. They want to play more than one time per week, and will participate in round robins, intra-club matches and tournaments,
Playdays: Level 4 & 5
Playdays are a popular part of our program and are included in the price of our level 4, 5 and invitational clinics. Playdays are supervised in-house round robins. A pro will be on hand to set up matches and will keep track of player’s scores. This year we have divided the level 4 & 5 players. The playdays will meet on alternating Friday and Saturday nights.
Please note that you must sign up weekly for the playdays at the front desk.
Playday is not offered in session 4
