Junior Tennis Group Clinics
Welcome to another season of tennis development at the Waltham Athletic Club.

Getting Started
Need to determine the child’s level. Free evaluations are offered at the Waltham Athletic Club. They should be done any time prior to the session registration. Please contact the tennis department by phone at 781-899-5000 x31 or by email at tenniswac@comcast.net, or wacdirector@comcast.net.

Correspondence is done mostly by e-mail, however registrations need to be done by phone or in person. If you do not receive e-mails from us, please e-mail the tennis department at tenniswac@comcast.net, or wacdirector@comcast.net. In the e-mail please give the students age and level so we can send him the appropriate material.

We have 5 different ability levels coupled with 4 age groups to place students in appropriate classes. New students will be offered a free evaluation to ensure proper class placement. We will have levels 1- 4 as well as a “High School Prep” level for our serious tennis players.

Our program is designed to ensure proper placement of students based on their age and ability. Our classes are designated Level 1 – 4 or High School Prep and we have four age groups: Preschool, Grades 1-3, Grades 4 – 7 & grades 8 – 12.

Students enrolled in levels 1,2 & 3 will attend one clinic per week. Students in level 4 & High school Prep will attend one clinic per week, but will also participate in our supervised match play (Play-days) on alternating Saturdays or Sundays.

Please read the following descriptions that our program uses to evaluate the students. All new students to the program above beginner (level 1) must be evaluated prior to registration. The evaluation is free and can be done at any time prior to registration To schedule an appointment for an evaluation, please call or e-mail the tennis department at x 31. Final level placement is determined by our professional tennis staff and is relative to benchmark players at each level within our program.

Rising Stars: This class is for preschool & kindergarten children ages 4 & 5 who have little or no tennis experience. This 45 minute class will be an active & fun introduction to tennis.
Level 1: This level is for students who have little or no tennis experience.
Level 2: This level is for students who have been introduced to basic strokes and can hit the ball over the net in a feeding drill. They can sustain a short rally in mini tennis. They cannot serve.
Level 3: Students in this level can sustain a short rally from the baseline. They can serve and have some experience playing singles and doubles.
Level 4: Students can hit with consistency and moderate power from the baseline. They have the ability to hit volleys, overheads, approach shots and serves. Their footwork and court coverage is improving. This class will emphasize technique, but will devote time each week to strategy and point play.
High School Prep:This level is for players who are committed to improving their games. They want to play more than one time per week and will participate in round robins, intra-club matches and desire to play High School Varsity Tennis.
Play-days: Level 4 & High School Prep:
Play-days is a popular part of our program and are included in the price of our level 4 and High School Prep classes. Play-days are supervised in-house round robins. A pro will be on hand to set up matches and will keep track of players scores. The level 4 and High School Prep play-days will meet on alternating Saturdays 6-7:30pm or Sundays 4-5:30pm. Please note that you must sign up weekly for the play-days at the front desk. Space is limited. Play-days are not offered in session 4. We will run round robins once weekly in their place.
Makeup's
We do not offer make-ups for missed classes. Any clinic cancelled by the Waltham Athletic will have a scheduled make-up. No credits will be issued should you choose not to attend. In inclement weather, please call the front desk at 781-899-5000 x0 to see if the class will be held.

Waltham Athletic Club is not responsible for inadvertent misprints or errors. Prices are subject to change without notice. We reserve the right to change or delete programs and schedules.

Class Schedule
Classes offered are 7, 8, 9 or 10 weeks in length.
Payment is due upon registration. Due to the small class sizes (5 to 1 maximum student to instructor ratio), we cannot give credits for classes missed. Please be sure your child is available before signing up for the class. We do not give refunds unless the child has a note from their doctor.
