Welcome
For over thirty years, the Waltham Athletic Club has been synonymous with junior tennis in the Greater Boston area. Our staff of trained professionals has taught the sport to thousands of young players, providing children with a fun, healthy, and lifelong skill. We always look forward to our summer tennis program, which allows both the students and instructors to focus for an entire week or more on the player's game. This opportunity is invaluable for a player looking to expand and develop their tennis abilities.

Barrett Alston - Director
Barrett has been coaching with us at the WAC for over seven years. He has a business degree from Bentley University, where he was a captain and four year starter on the tennis team. Barrett has always been a favorite of our junior students, and has worked with countless players who have made the difficult leap from recreational to tournament players. His goal is to send every student home with new skills, a better knowledge of the game, and, of course, a smile.

Venues
Our program is held at the Waltham Athletic Club, where we enjoy access to tennis courts regardless of weather, a swimming pool, and numerous fitness areas. We also have outdoor courts available for our exclusive use.

Schedule
We are holding ten 5-day sessions, beginning the week of June 21-25 and ending August 23-27. Each session will run Monday through Friday, with a half day (morning) only on Friday. Students may enroll in any number of sessions, they need not be consecutive.

Tennis Instruction
At the WAC we place a premium on individualized coaching - the student/instructor ratio is rarely more than 5:1, and frequently smaller. We tailor our stroke development, drills, and games to the specific skill sets of each player. Barrett will provide a comprehensive evaluation after each weekly session.

Play, Learn, Swim, Train
The afternoon program is a combination of activities that will complement the skills learned during the morning instruction. Players will compete in supervised matches to sharpen their competitive abilities while also playing fun, instructor-led tennis games. Swimming will simply be a great way to cool off during the hot summer days. The training/fitness portion is further described below.

Fitness
Tennis is a demanding physical activity, and tennis-specific training is crucial to any young player's development. Lawrence Malloy, our in-house fitness director, will work with Barrett to develop a weekly training regimen tailored to the needs of the individual players. Lawrence has worked with athletes of all ages for over ten years, including the top junior players at our club.
He holds certifications in many areas, including personal training, group exercise, flexibility, and pilates.

Age & Level
Barrett and his staff are equipped to accommodate players of all ages and levels. If you have any questions about a younger child's ability to handle a full day of tennis and related activities, please feel free to contact Barrett to discuss possible options.
