 |
Welcome.
At the Waltham Athletic Club, tennis is our game. For over 30 years our staff of trained professionals has taught the sport to thousands of young students while promoting an atmosphere filled with learning and laughter. During the summer, we move outdoors to the beautiful Bentley College tennis courts and enjoy some tennis in the morning sun. Our junior summer program is a perfect opportunity for players of all abilities and ages to pick up some new skills while having a great time.

Barrett Alston - Director
Barrett has been coaching with us at the WAC for over five years. He has a business degree from Bentley College, where he was a senior captain and four-year starter on the tennis team. Barrett has been a favorite of our junior students since his first day on the job due to his enthusiasm and innovative coaching techniques. We are excited to have Barrett on as our new summer tennis director, and he is looking forward to a fun and educational summer for all.

Summer's Edge
New this year is our collaboration with Summer's Edge, the day camp that is held at the WAC. In cooperation with Summer's Edge, we are able to supplement our morning tennis program with an afternoon camp that includes swimming, team/individual sports, arts & crafts, and a variety of other camper-selected activities.
This full-service camp is directed by Ann Marie Gallo, the enthusiastic founder of Summer's Edge. Ann Marie has a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership, and for years, we here at the WAC have admired the intelligence and devotion that she brings to her program. Summer's Edge is a fun, upbeat, and dynamic camp that we are proud to be partnered with. For further information, please contact the camp office at
781-891-EDGE or visit the web site at www.summersedgedaycamp.com.

Schedule
We are holding ten 4-day sessions, beginning the week of June 23-26 and ending August 25-28. Each session runs Monday through Thursday, with Friday as a rain day. Students may enroll in any numbers of sessions; they need not be consecutive.
The morning tennis session is held from 9:00AM-12:00PM, and the afternoon Summer’s Edge camp session runs from 12:00PM-3:00PM. Players may select to attend the morning session only, or the entire day.
Transportation will be provided by the WAC for full-day campers from Bentley to Summer's Edge at the WAC.

Age & Level
Barrett and his staff are equipped to accommodate players of all ages and levels. The goal of the program is to send every student home with new skills, a better understanding of the game, and, of course, a smile.
|
Curriculum
Each week, players will focus on the basics of tennis, including forehands, backhands, volleys, overheads, and serves. Younger players will also participate in a variety of fun tennis-based games, and older or more experienced players will be schooled on the finer points of the game while training more rigorously. Every camper will be provided with a comprehensive evaluation at the end of each session.
